The history behind a successful travel business: Rivers Floating Lodge
He went to Paris to study in the hope that then they will find a better paid job in Romania. From France, however, he has not come home, but took a country road and beyond: Cambodia. It is the story of Valentin Pawlik, a Romanian who now runs a unique business in the world at more than 8,000 kilometers away from his native country.
Valentin Pawlik left the country almost 15 years ago. He arrived just in Cambodia, where he opened the only luxury tent complex in the world.
“4 Rivers Floating Lodge” is actually a hotel of 2,000 square meters, consisting of 18 tents. Pawlik has invested one million dollars to bring plasmas and wi-fi on the Tatai river bank, where the complex is located. Place hosted by thousands of tourists and journalists from the New York Times or the Guardian. The price for the night in tents at 4 Rivers starts at $ 200.
More than a decade ago went to Paris, was admitted to a prestigious post-graduate school. He hoped to find easily a French company working in Romania and to return home.
After three years, “full of French bureaucracy,” Valentin went through another change. “From the question in question, the friend of a friend” met two French Romanian organized cruises in Cambodia, the Mekong River: “They needed a general manager and saw something I had not seen me,” he says.
Although never worked in tourism, had been hitherto in Asia and had not seen a boat than on television, he accepted the challenge. Just arrived in Cambodia, a country that he is told to mind, offers only two options: either you love or hate “not yet seen the man to remain neutral,” says Valentin.
In 2009, five years after he led the French company, he decided to try his luck on his own, sensing that will kick. At first, he planned to open a floating wooden cottage complex on the banks Tataiului. While drawing plans, his sister – who followed in Cambodia and interior design helps – found some large tents, selling on the Internet.
“In terms of technical and marketing, the idea seemed excellent. The tents are lighter than a cottage and install easier, “said Valentin.
Pawlik claims that the project started from scratch, with ambition, original ideas and a million dollars borrowed from an American living in Cambodia.
However, Valentin Pawlik Romania lacks. He returns home every year, attracted by hometown and friends.
“Unfortunately, due to the peak season here (No Cambodia), I can not spend the winter holidays in the country. No you can not imagine how much I miss a white Christmas, “he said finally.
