China introduced the first large airliner own conception, after several years of delays, making another step towards the objective of developing an aircraft to compete with Boeing and Airbus, reported CNN.
However, the device with a single deck C919 will not be delivered opertatorilor air for at least three years, which highlights the difficulties faced by China in its efforts to become a global player in the aviation market.
Developed by state-owned Comac plane with two engines initially after first flight in 2014 and commercial deliveries to begin in 2016.
Comac manufacturing problems forced to postpone deadlines on several occasions. Company representatives said test flights should begin next year, and first deliveries are expected no earlier than 2018 or 2019.
Comac did not disclose list prices for the C919.
Thousands of guests, including government officials and representatives of the aviation industry have witnessed the patriotic songs fund, the C919 presentation at the assembly plant near Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, according to Chinese media.
The plane, with a capacity of 158-174 seats, was designed in Shanghai, but includes components manufactured globally and is based on foreign technology or electronics from Rockwell Collins, engines developed by CFM International, a joint venture of General Electric and Snecma, the French company Safran division.
The aircraft will be tested on the ground and in the air for two to three years before obtaining certification from the Chinese regulatory authority in aviation and to enter commercial service.
China introduced the C919 aircraft development plans in 2006, as part of efforts to create an advanced aeronautical sector, able to break the monopoly Airbus and Boeing.
Comac Airbus and Boeing congratulated and welcomed competition from Chinese company, saying in separate communiqués, the aviation market is large enough to receive a new producer.
The two major aircraft manufacturers on the other hand trying to secure their market shares in China by creating industrial base and developing new higher performance aviaone with future models of Chinese competitors.
A320 Airbus aircraft assembled in Tianjin, in northeastern China, while Boeing announced last December plans for a 737 aircraft completion center in China, where the planes will be painted and will be installed interiors.
Both carmakers plan to increase the number of planes that included carbon fiber materials, which are lighter and considered more effective.
About 12% of C919 structure is made of composite material, according to Xinhua news agency, while representatives Comac initially hoped that the share to be 20% in order to reduce fuel consumption.
Postponing C919 commercial debut will make newer versions of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 have higher performance, consider Derek Levine, a professor at City College of New York who studies China’s aviation policies.
Analysts anticipate however that Comac aircraft will achieve a significant part of China’s aviation market, will have guaranteed sales by domestic operators, amid rising demand.
Comac announced that it has received orders for 517 C919 aircraft, from 21 customers, most Chinese.
According to analysts, foreign operators are reluctant to investează a plane that has no historical operational and safety certifications from Western regulators such as the Federal Aviation Administration in the US and the European Aviation Safety Agency.
China also prepares for the onset of commercial airliner another local product, a smaller aircraft for regional flights, ARJ21, whose production was marked in turn by numerous delays.
According to Xinhua, the operator Chengdu Airlines will receive the first aircraft ARJ21, with a capacity of 78-90 seats, by the end of this year.
